2022 USPA Skydiving National Championships

CHICAGO (Aug. 3, 2022) – America’s best skydivers are coming together for the 2022 United States Parachute Association (USPA) National Championships hosted jointly by Skydive Chicago and Skydive Midwest. With an official kick-off on Friday, Sept. 2, practice and competitions will span three weeks. The skydivers will compete in various disciplines – from canopy piloting, where pilots swoop over water clocking speeds up to 100 MPH – to artistic routines in freefall, to performances in specially designed wingsuits, to dropping through the sky at the fastest speeds humanly possible. Skydive Midwest will host the highly visual canopy piloting and canopy piloting-freestyle disciplines Sept. 2-7, while all other events will be at Skydive Chicago’s main campus Sept. 8-21. Skydive Midwest is located in Sturtevant, Wisconsin, which is 25 minutes from downtown Milwaukee and less than an hour north of Chicago. Skydive Chicago is located in Ottawa, Illinois, approximately one hour west of downtown Chicago. Both drop zones serve as a venue for the media and general public to see skydiving at its most exciting and very best. At Skydive Midwest, spectators can witness inspiring canopy piloting events in person from the ground. Attendees at Skydive Chicago can watch fun freefall disciplines from a large LED screen that will broadcast in-air footage from each skydive, in addition to livestream options. “Nationals is our premier opportunity to give skydiving competitors a safe and fair playing field in the sky, while inspiring others to try skydiving,” said USPA Executive Director Albert Berchtold. “We are proud to put on the world’s largest single national skydiving event, and we welcome our U.S. champions and many international competitors to Skydive Chicago and Skydive Midwest.” Nationals competitors are competing with the ultimate goal of forming representative ??U.S. Teams to participate in future international competitions. One such competition this year is the 2022 World Parachuting Championships taking place Oct. 9-26 at Skydive Arizona (Eloy, Arizona). The event follows successful performances from U.S. skydivers at the World Games canopy piloting competition at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, July 9-11.
