Tourism Coordinator (part-time)

Overall Summary To promote the historic Illinois and Michigan Canal, Illinois and Michigan Canal Towns, The First Hundred Miles of Route 66, and places in the Heritage Corridor Destinations (HCD) region. This region includes Will, Grundy, LaSalle, Putnam, Bureau, and Livingston counties and is a destination for individuals, families, small and large groups, and motor coach groups. This candidate will help visitors have a fun, educational, and memorable experience within the Heritage Corridor Destinations service area. In addition, this candidate will assist current members and clients regarding membership, partnership, advertising, and co-op opportunities. This position will be providing coverage for the Welcome Center Gift Shoppe, open daily from 12:00pm to 6:00pm and may need to provide coverage on weekends, holidays, and special events. Principal Duties and Responsibilities • Receive payments for goods and services at the Starved Rock Country Welcome Center • Maintain the Welcome Center/Gift Shoppe merchandise • Change displays/window décor seasonally and as new items are received • Maintain HCD general project files, financial/accounting files, and membership files • Answer phone calls, greet visitors, and accept packages/deliveries • Assist with coordination on HCD projects, distribution of printed materials, and mass mailings • Make calls regarding membership renewals, partner package upgrades, proposals, statements, invoicing, and follow-ups • Update community and member events and input them into the HCD website • Maintain a well-informed, working knowledge of the facilities, attractions, accommodations, and services of all bureau memberships/partners Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Retail store and cash handling experience • Knowledge of Facebook and social media platforms • Able to build rapport with other businesses, leadership, visitors, tourists, and our partners/members • Proven customer service skill and etiquette practices • Strong knowledge of office computer software, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Canva and/or Adobe Illustrator/InDesign, and CRM (Simpleview) preferred • Must have a clean driving record, valid driver’s license, proper registration, and auto insurance • Knowledge of the Heritage Corridor Destinations service area is not required, but preferred Physical Considerations • Ability to occasionally lift supplies and equipment (up to 50 lbs.) • Requires standing and/or sitting for more than 6 hours a day How to Apply Visit the Starved Rock Country Welcome Center at 248 W.
