    HR Generalist


    Viakable Manufacturing is a producer of electrical wire and cable located in LaSalle, Illinois. This position reports directly to the Plant Director and indirectly to the Director of Human Resources. The role I responsible for the administration of the Human Resources Department at the plant. Given that 50% of the employees in the organization speak Spanish, this position will require someone that is fully bilingual. Additionally this role will need to coach senior management, that are expats of our parent company,Viakable in Monterrey Mexico, on HR law and HR SOP in the United States.
    This position is responsible for the following duties to include but not limited to: hourly payroll processing; coordination of recruiting and staffing; record-keeping, and policies and procedures associated with the Human Resource Department. This position reports to the HR Manager.


    • Obtain all payroll data from managers and employees including but not limited to hours, salary adjustments, special payments, tax allocations and employee deductions.
    • Find and recruit for all positions within the organization.
    • Coordinates recruitment activities on local level to include creating/posting job ads, scheduling/conducting job interviews, conducting background/reference checks, setting up physicals and drug tests, make new hire packets, making hiring recommendations, and on-boarding new hires. Position will partner with managers to ensure staffing levels are maintained.
    • Liaise with management to ensure all policies and procedures are communicated to staff.
    • Position will coordinate company’s on-boarding program for new hires
    • Review all employee information for completeness and accuracy. Report any potential issues.
    • Process new hire data into payroll system including, but not limited to: personal information, pay rate and job code data, W-4 wage withholding information and exemptions, completing I-9, setting up all payroll deductions and other onboarding paperwork.
    • Calculate and process all payroll related changes including but not limited to: transfers, terminations, promotions, and changes in pay.
    • Process wage adjustments, calculating per payroll deduction as necessary, following all state and federal guidelines.
    • Handle all payroll discrepancies
    • Position will assist all managers and employees with Time & Attendance system
    • Position will build applicant sources by researching and contacting local community agencies and resources; providing organization information, hiring opportunities, and building/maintaining rapport.
    • Compensation including salary/rate and retroactive pay increases, and other pre- or post-tax deductions.
    • Position will assist with gathering information for leaves of absence to include FMLA, Workers’ Compensation, and Disability Programs.
    • Position will be responsible for document retention procedures.
    • Maintain current knowledge of all HR related laws and guidelines.
    • Weekly filing of employee & company files to ensure confidentiality & compliancy
    • Support Plant Director and Senior Management team in other related work, special projects, and perform other duties as assigned.


    • Bachelor's Degree required
    • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 1-2 years of recruiting
    • HR Generalist experience
    • 3-5 years of ADP, Paycor, or other online payroll experience preferred.
    • PHR preferred or SHRM certification preferred


    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to take care of customer needs while following company procedures. Ability to handle difficult situations with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
    • Knowledge of customer service standards, expectations and procedures. Accepts responsibility and is accountable for actions. Builds strong working relationships with all employees.
    • Has a high level of recruiting and interviewing skills. Be able to articulate non-discriminatory opinions with regards to hiring recommendations.
    • Has ability to think, reason, and use all other available resources to solve problems or recommend solutions.
    • Performs work accurately and thoroughly. Has regular and consistent attendance.
    • Skill in the use of computers and related software applications, preferably with a PC (Windows-based) operating system such as Microsoft Office, and proficient with Google email.
    • Proficient with general office equipment, i.e. phone, computer, printer, copier, fax, scanner, etc.
    • Skill in organizing resources while establishing timelines and priorities. Requires minimal supervision.
    • Ability to analyze and interpret HR related data, reports, statements and/or projections.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce.
    • Ability to foster a cooperative and safe work environment.
    • Knowledge of federal, state, and local HR laws pertinent to the company.
    • Monitor and maintain employee information and files, including accurately inputting employee data.
    • Able to assist with organizational training and development programs.
