Kids Fishing Expo

The 15th annual, free, Kid’s Fishing Expo will be 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at Baker Lake, Peru.
The event is a free beginning-fishing “how-to” clinic for boys and girls ages 6 and up.
Sessions will start every 15 minutes. There will be free fishing games with prizes; casting games; live fish displays; free bait; free fishing literature and door prizes; casting lessons, and lessons on how to tie a knot, bait a hook, tie a fly, identify what is caught, clean a fish and more. There will be tips from a professional fisherman, and a limited number of fishing poles will be available for loan. Boy Scouts can receive their fishing merit badge.
Games will be provided by the Pouncing Panthers 4H Club, and Peru Police Department will provide safety information.
There will be prizes, soda, snacks, games and food sponsored by Better Fishing Association of Northern, Illinois, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Illinois Valley Sunrise Rotary Club, La Salle Rotary Club and Center for Youth and Family Solutions (formerly Catholic Charities) in association with the cities of Peru and La Salle and Peru Rescue Squad.
