DESCRIPTION:The Illinois Valley Area Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development (IVAC) will hold their Business Breakfast Seminar on Wednesday\, August 8th @ 7:15 a.m. at Mario's Maples in Peru.  The focus of the seminar will be "Skill Building with Leadership Development".   \n\n \n\nGuest Speaker:\n\nLa Salle County Sheriff\, Tom Templeton\n\nAs a lifelong resident of the Illinois Valley\, Tom graduated from Hall High School and Illinois Valley Community College\, after which he joined the United States Air Force where he worked in Intelligence Operations.  After the military\, he went on to pursue a career in law enforcement\, successfully completing basic police training and going on to attend the FBI National Academy and University of Virginia\, Illinois Sheriff's Management Institute and National Sheriff's Institute\, as well as the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Institute.  Throughout his extensive career\, Tom has received in excess of 2500 hours of Law Enforcement Education including:  Threat & Risk Assessment   Texas A&M University System\; Youth Violence & School Safety Conference   Regional Institute for Community Policing\; Medical/Legal Death Investigation School   Basic and Masters Courses   St. Louis University Medical School\; Midwest Tactical Training Institute\; F.A.T.S (Fire Arms Training Simulator) Instructor training\; Homicide Investigation Training   John Marshall Law School\; Interview & Interrogation Basic & Advanced courses   John Reid\; Illinois Valley Crime Prevention Commission Classes\n\nDomestic Violence Investigators Training   IL State Training Board\; Law Enforcement Executive Institute\; Officer Survival Instructor Training   Metro Dade Police Department\; Due Process and Internal Affairs Investigations\n\n \n\nTom has worked in the La Salle County Sheriff's office for over 40 years\, beginning as a deputy  in 1973 and then moving up to Sergeant (1975-1978)\, Lieutenant (1978-1992)\, Captain (1992-1998)\, Tactical Team Commander (1990-1998)\, and since 1998\, currently serves as La Salle County Sheriff. \n\n \n\nThroughout his years as a civil servant\, Tom has received 28 letters of commendation\, has sat on nine boards\, commissions and community service organizations\, served as a member of 13 different associations\, and has been a guest lecturer and presenter for a number of local organizations.
