DESCRIPTION:Canal Corridor Association  \n\n	Dinner Lecture\n\n	\n\n	"What's Coming Down the Line? \n\n	The Railroad in the American Mind" \n\n	Thursday\, November 15\, 2012 \n\n	at Lock 16 Center in LaSalle\n\n	 \n\n\n"The Railroad is more than a transportation system in American culture.  It not only helped transform the nation economically\, but also became a potent symbol\, reflected in advertising\, children's literature\, music and film.  Come take a ride 'down the line' and visit the many ways that the railroad reflected American culture."  This presentation will be given by Mike Matejka\, downstate vice-president of the Illinois Labor History Society\, Governmental Affairs director for the Great Plains Laborers District Council and editor of the Grand Prairie Union News. Cocktails start at 5:30PM with dinner beginning at 6PM.\n\nThe Canal Corridor Association's dinner lecture costs $20 (plus tip and tax) for members and $25 (plus tip and tax) for non-members. Reservations are required.  Please call 815-223-1851 to make your reservations.\n\nThe Canal Corridor Association is the local coordinating entity for the Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage Corridor\, the nation's first national heritage corridor. The Canal Corridor Association is a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve history\, protect nature and open space\, and create destinations where people can learn and have fun along the I&M Canal\, from Chicago to LaSalle/Peru.  The Canal Corridor Association   manages the Lock 16 Visitor Center and owns the LaSalle Canal Boat.
